Original Voice: Robert Nordstrom & Julie Eger
COLOMA HOTEL WILL FEATURE 2 POETS IN MAY
The Original Voice was cancelled in March so Julie and Robert will share the podium for a rare treat at the Original Voice.
Editor and poet Robert Nordstrom is slated to present his poems at the Coloma Hotel’s Original Voice reading on Wednesday, May 8 at 7 pm. An open mic will follow.
Robert lives with his wife of 36 years in Mukwonago, Wisconsin. An editor of various scholarly journals and trade magazines for over 30 years, he stays busy these days with poetry, freelance writing, and school bus driving. He says that as a school bus driver, his most recent—and perhaps most worthy—accomplishments are teaching high schoolers how to respond when an adult says good morning and convincing a second grader that it’s probably best that she not lick the seat in front of her.
A native of Ohio, Robert came to Wisconsin for graduate school in 1979 and was never tempted to return. He obtained his master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Robert is a member of the Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets and has published fiction and poetry in various literary publications, including, among others, Verse Wisconsin, Rosebud, Miller’s Pond, Paris Voices, Glass Review, Xanadu, Echoes, Staccato Fiction, Pif Magazine, and Main Street Rag. Three of his poems received honorable mention in Peninsula Pulse’s Hal Grutzmacher Literary Contest.
The Original Voice is a free event held at the Coloma Hotel, 132 Main Street, Coloma the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. The evening starts with a featured guest artist who shares ideas and inspirations and presents a half hour or so of his/her own work. This is an opportunity for creative people to introduce poems, books, chapbooks, or CDs or to try out some new work on an audience. Following the featured guest, the microphone is available to anyone who wants to take part. Both unseasoned and experienced performers are urged to make brief presentations ––two or three of their own poems or songs, a short essay, or a couple of pages of prose. For more information or to sign up as a featured presenter, contact Barb Cranford at (608) 564-7701 or Julie Eger at (920) 787-7663. No need to sign up to take part in the open mic, just come.
